Though Syrah has been around for hundreds of years, it is really in the last ten years that this grape has been gaining the fame that it so very much deserves. It has many great qualities that have helped its popularity grow, but one of our favorites is the expressive flavors it provides ranging from violets and berries to espresso and black pepper. These flavors, combined with the fleshy fruit mid-palate, make this grape one of our favorites as its own varietal and as the backbone to many of our blends.
Our Camp Four Vineyard, located in the middle of the Santa Ynez Valley, has been an exceptional resource for Syrah. The structure of this vineyard along with the warm climates in its location has made it an outstanding area to grow this grape. Our Block 2 Syrah, grown at Camp Four vineyard, is back to prove this once again. Aged for 20 months in 60% new French oak, this wine beautifully imparts the fruit qualities of blackberry jam, blueberry liquor, plum and black cherry with a balance of vanilla and cinnamon spice. The rich, velvety palate provides flavors of dark berries, chocolate truffle, cinnamon spice and sweet oak, which enhance the nice, long finish of this wine.
A great wine to enjoy with a good steak and grilled veggies, the 2006 Block 2 Syrah is sure to be a favorite at your table!
