This is our 5th vintage of Grenache Rose and we are always excited to see people's reactions when they take their first taste. It is almost never what they expect! The dry palate of this wine (that's right, it is NOT sweet!!!) is always such a shock!! And a pleasant shock at that! We have based our Rose on the European style which is most often seen as a lunchtime wine. Here in the states, though, the dry Rose is a perfect addition to any barbeque or afternoon occassion as well! For our 2009 vintage, we have tried something a little bit different. Instead of 100% Grenache, this year's vintage is 82% Grenache, 10% Cinsault and 8% Counoise (all of which was sourced 59% from Camp Four Vineyard and 41% from Rodney's Vineyard) and spent 6 months in neutral French oak barrels. The 2 new wine additions have made for such an interesting combination! While all three wines provide a soft tannin structure, Cinsault is often noted for bringing a softness to a wine and enhancing the fruit flavors. Counoise is also noted for its soft fruitiness, but also hints of spice and pepper that help balance the fruit and acids from the Grenache. On the nose you will find scents of strawberry, watermelon, rose petal and cherry while the refreshing acidity on the palate exhibits flavors of strawberry, rhubarb, cranberry and vanilla. Always a crowd pleaser, this wine is sure to enhance any barbeque meal (especially chicken, pork and burgers), fich tacos, tostadas, and turkey sandwiches. A glass of Grenache Rose is the perfect way to end any summer day!
